FUNKY TAURUS by Mys35 Since I heard about Rebecca Heinrich, known as FunkyTaurus, my only purpose was to make her be known by the funkateers. She has been collaborating with George Clinton and a lot of P funk mob, she's now one of the P funk all stars and you'll learn how it happens to be. But more than that she's a complete and true artist : singer, producer, photografer, clothes designer ... and that the kind of person i'm glad to talk about : someone who acts sincerely with her heart. And for sure she 's got the funk !!!! Anne-Marie aka Mys35 You were in an artistic way since young but how did you became Funky Taurus (can you explain your name) and a funk addict ? Even as a child i could not sleep at night and went out of my bed . and when I looked out of the window I have seen devils dancing under the street lights. I came on earth as the person I am. When I sleep I dream music and when I look around I see pictures, beside all the visions. During a photo session I thought by myself I were weird like a crazy taurus, and the first pics did not come out fine. so I decided to develop them the other way round and all of a sudden I liked the pic allthough there wasn´t a big difference. At home i placed the pics on the floor to have a look at them and one visitor all of a sudden said :" oh look Rebecca, there is a full taurus head in that pic " I was so amazed , I hadn´t been focussed on the laque suit, but in that suit there was really mirrowing the face of a taurus with horns, nose and eyes in the picture. so i decided to name myself funky taurus. it is a registered trademark now . You were born and raised in Germany, why did u decide to go to USA ? Once I placed a request in a newspaper here in Hannover : who loves the look of David Bowie, the voice of Nina Hagen and the beats fat like Prince´s ? I wanna sing along with you. Happily I went to the band who called but they chased me away because they said I were weird, crazy and fully out of tune talking about things which cannot be real. This happened where ever i went to. The change came when I bought a concert ticket to see Roger Troutman / Zapp. oh Anne-Marie he came to me !!!!!!!! Steping on my food saying " girl you belong to funk music, this is my card please come to visit me in Ohio." That was a complete new experience and really I felt I must learn a lot and started to learn as much as possible. so it came that I called Paisley Park Prince and they did help me with studio equipment questions and technical things. Than I met George Clinton and this man sees me and and I felt alright he just says : "girl have a seat, tell me what is up", George did not go on stage untill he had finished to talk to me. he invited me to his private farm . So I started off in the us and opened m label there in Detroit. When you arrived in the US, you call Prince then u met George Clinton who invited you in his farm to teach you production technics. It seems so easy, how do you explain that ? We understand each other so well and we have the same values and respect each other so much. We love the same things and we all have these visions and music pieces in mind. For us all that is real, true, fun, and we love to work 24 hours. For us it is not weird and we like to work fast. We do not need all the words to explain it the studio like it was in Germany, we just do the songs and after that we do the next. We do get tired and want to continue all the time. Not many people like tempo and music and work 24 hours, but we do. For us its fun not work. It is very very easy for me to get along with George and co. You have your own label since 1999, will u produce another album and for other artists ? What about the material you have done with George Clinton ? The Funky Taurus records label released my own e=mc² cd and will release the tracks and cds I do / did with George Clinton. I have not had the time to get out more because I was focussed on finding all employees worldwide and by the way I had to do the entire markting by myself as well to get the money for all the productions, videos, and releases. Of course I do get out music from other collaboration partners as well. I sent to of my employees to south african early this year to get the press going on and many artists already sent tapes and videos which I will produce and release. I opened up a Funky Taurus foundation in south africa and the first music shows will happen with southafrican artists by the end of this year. I saw on your website that George Clinton will produce your album and he's on your label, so who will produce the other ? Me, him, he and me , me and someone else. I decide when the time is there. You live in the USA, you work all around the world, the Funky Taurus Enterntainement is in Hannover : why ? Is it a choice ? Funny as it is that I live in Hannover, I really found out that it is all the same all over the places in the entire world. I travelled a lot and I feel like the same person everywhere. There is no difference. So far I have a safe, healthy good place I am just happy and satisfied. I have too much work and too many journeys to think about finding me a place to life. All I really need is safety, sports, food, a laptop, a phone, an airport and my equipment. I already now the most important people and can call them any time. I do not have to be at a certain place to hook up or to fix my deals and projects. Can you present us your band, I saw there was Famous names on it ? You're definitively on the funk thing ? Funk is a deep big part of me but also the music art of Ryuichi Sakamoto and brand new styles are loved by me. It is the variety. But funk is, was and will allways be my favourite love. All the band members of mine played with George, Bootsy, James Brown, Prince, I had no idea where to find a bass player and put that on my website, and it was really Jerome Brailey who wrote me an email. So I went from there and I was easier for me to deal with experienced musicians than with others and explaining why I do what when and how without training but recording right away. What are your musical planes for the future, I saw on an interview that you have the contact with Missy Elliot and Busta Rhythm ? First I release my own cd and video, and than the stuff with George and the african stuff and in between I meet Busta Rhymes, Redman and Missy Elliot and see what we are going to do. I live moment by moment and see what I will do. It is not that I really have a clue what I do. You're recording at that moment, can we have a sight of what it will be ? Funk, p-funk, hiphop, south african style and my new mixture And what is your new video about ( with Doc Hollywwod) ? There are 2 videos: one for the cd showing my funk love, the second is an african mixture and beside all the documentaries about funk, music, africa, etc How did you find to go to Namibia and start working there ? Iit is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and I just took a flight to go there because I had a surgery in 2000 and could hardly move my leg. So I wanted to enjoy sunshine and just went to Africa. Arriving there lots and lots of very nice people came to me and put me on tv, in the press on radio, and they were treating me so nice that I stayed long and opened up the Funky Taurus foundation. I just love it. And I am looking forward with fun and pleasure to the shows. You are a complete artist : music, photography, video, stylism and graphics, what is the link between all that categories ? the funk ? What is your artistical research ? The real link is that all parts of my person are involved and time is working for me . No matter which mood I am in or what I want to do it is all designed around my person that I can live freely the way I like and do what I want any minute. So when I open my mouth I sing or do business, when I am lazy and bored I just switch around the fabric and create clothes without that I even know or feel its work. The many fields are there because I am very moody and alive and I do have demands on my brain, soul and body. And I need adventures, challenges, my own speed, and my different abilities to be satisfied. I cannot rest or sleep unless I finished what I wanted to do. It is a real true intention, it is coming out of the blue. What I do got names by people living on this earth, they named it funk, design, etc for me its just being me doing what I really like. Artistical research ? Oh yes I had to because people compared me to styles, people, management techniques I did not even know that people "work" on all that. So I went through music styles, photography, design , all artists in this world and their styles to put me on the safe side that no one can say I would have copied. sometimes I really did something what George or someone else had already done in similar ways , so I really had to research all fields to remain original. I felt I could do something original. Now I just sit on the moon watching the world from my planet and I do not feel bothered and I don´t touch thinks I do not like. Do u feel something special with the fact of being a woman in this man's man's artistical world ? It was never an issue. When the work is good anybody can make it no matter of which gender, race, age, colour or handicap, all what happens comes out of the person itself. Your name is not very known for the funkateers, but you have been recognised by the music environment, how do you explain that ? I started deep inside the music business and I am working in the heart of the worldwide artist and music scene and industry. I had hardly time to stress me that much in the media that all funketeers now me. I think FFF and Mudbone know me . They are based in France. To reach all funkateers needs worldwide promotion and a smash hit in the charts. I was not focussed on that. I was very busy developping my companies and activities. I had to get myself ready . If you had to choose, what will be the most important thing for you, music or the others arts ? Depends o the mood of the day I have to decide and the facilities I have around that day When I am old I will probably write books and paint more. Now I am focussed on activities with body moves. But productions I will never give up, this music is inside me and I cannot sleep untill I fixed the song What advice could you give to funk artists or to people trying to do something into the funk ? Go for it, don´t let anybody stop you. Don´t lie, neither cheat:. But Baby go for it. All my best wishes are with you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is funk music today, according to you ? Still funk, still p-funk, still the most sampled stuff in the world, the basic of hip-hop !!! Just all people need to know to create good perfect life for themselves, no matter what it will be.

Information about Funky Taurus
Hearing the voice of David Bowie in the radio brought me into music. By TV I was introduced to the great dancer Nurejef and photographs of Nijinsky were seen by me in a library accidentally.
I always dream songs or music and always there are all these pictures in my head that I was happy by noticing the artist´s world and that I am not the only one with ideas like that, but only when I saw the record covers from Parliament,Bootsy,Funkadelic etc.in 1991 and while listening to that kind of music I definitely knew where I was looking for and where my ideas could go with.
Before that time I wanted to be an actress because sometimes I felt I had learned to be one and how to do it because I did not grow up among artists and there was no contact to them at all, so my behaviour was the one my
environment expected. But it was a joke to me and I did not want to spend all my life play-acting.To go to the
university to study physics would have been something , but I cannot sit that long.
My real intentions were and are only music. I am deeply impressed by George Clinton,
Sly Stone and Miles Davis.
It is such a luck for me to have found a field I can work in. It is a need for me to put all my ideas out and art is made for that.
Even though being a child I got up late at night and saw devils dancing under the street light while looking around or out of the window in my room. I had all these visions and a sleeping rhythm that made me up late at night.
So there are no crucial experiences making me to the person I am. I definitely came to earth like that.
The best and the worst can be the same thing at the same time. So lay down and see heaven in the sky. Just do it.
